Lisa (Villeneuve) Filips

profile.jpgProfile: I started crafting at age two, when mud pies and spaghetti were my muse. A lifelong learner and now “retired” elementary school teacher, Iʼm home with three little ones full-time, who are my biggest inspiration. Crafting is a fun way for me to engage with others while not taking away from my family.  I get ideas from books, TV, nature, travel, craft shows, my children, and necessity! I believe everyone is an artist in some capacity, and in this vein, Iʼm not afraid to try something new in discovering my inner artist...in fact, I believe this is what can keep so many people young-spirited.

Years ago, I got very interested in stained glass. After doing a few small projects, Iʼve branched out into large panels and commissioned work. Suncatchers are so much fun too, as they brighten a room without being a “heavy” addition to home decor. Iʼve created small handbags and dresses to go with girlsʼ rooms, angels and mermaids, brides and grooms, and all types of holiday-themed pieces. Iʼve had a lot of fun with these.

My fall line will be coming soon!

Going from stained glass to glass pendants was an easy transition. I couldnʼt stand to throw away any scrap glass from projects. My collection was growing, but not really usable (glass is sharp, after all). By experimenting, Iʼve amended the glass to be functional, inspiring me to use glass in mosaics, chimes, mobiles, garden art, and eventually jewelry of all types.
From glass to jewelry, Peek-A-Bags to puppet theatres, wool angels and fairies to cloth baskets (soon to post), hair clips and bows, hand-carved gourds, house signs and fairy doors, my world just keeps expanding.

Stay tuned to whatʼs next!
