People always ask me when I started to make greeting cards…. It hasn’t been long that I have made them (since 2009) but I have spent many years sending them. I have always wanted to give those I love little reminders that I am thinking of them and how much they mean to me. Sending snail-mail started to become my favorite pastime!
I loved making others feel special and while doing that- I felt good too! Win-win! I began to put a decorative spin to the greeting cards I sent. I wanted them to stand out and look attractive. I found myself adding a twist to the original card each time by adding color, decorating with embellishments, stickers, splashes of glitter, more stickers, fancy envelopes, cute return address labels, and then to seal it off with a wax stamp, or just more stickers!!! I was truly in my ‘element’ when doing this!
It wasn’t long after that that I ventured into doing an entire greeting card by myself; making it my own. Everything is self-taught by trial and error. Mistake after mistake… I have never taken a class; I do not have a cutting board or a fancy scrap machine. I do it all by hand, glue, scissors, tape, and lots of shopping/collecting of floral pieces and colors. Oh, and glitter of course!
Finally, it was with many little ‘pushes’ from my dear friend Jennifer and Jobina, my encouraging sister; that I made my greeting cards into AKG Creations. Now my only hope is to bring cheer, sparkle and beauty to others. I want to make a greeting card worth keeping- worth holding on to. A gift within itself.
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. - Judy Garland
